Gender and Development Activity (GAD)
Gender and Development (GAD)
Republic Act No. 7192, also known as the Women in Development and Nation Building Act, emphasizes the fundamental equality of women and men and their roles in nation-building. Gender and Development (GAD) aims to remove gender biases and ensure that both women and men can fully realize their potential, gain control over their income, and develop confidence and independence.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) encourages Local Government Units (LGUs) to integrate GAD into their planning and budgeting processes and establish Local Councils of Women. Additionally, DILG partners with gender-responsive institutions through the UGSAD (Regional Gender Resource Center for Western Visayas) to address gender issues effectively, particularly in the workplace.Localization of the Magna Carta of Women (MCW)
The Magna Carta of Women is a comprehensive law in the Philippines aimed at eliminating discrimination and safeguarding the fundamental rights of Filipino women, particularly those from marginalized sectors, effectively serving as their “Bill of Rights.” The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is responsible for reviewing, endorsing, and monitoring the submission of Gender and Development (GAD) Plans and Budgets (GPBs) and GAD Accomplishment Reports (GAD ARs) from local government units (LGUs).
